CHICAGO – A Cook County woman is suing Naperville and Des Plaines nursing homes, alleging her mother developed fatal wounds after her residency with the defendants.

Kathleen Macek-Pogorzelski, independent executor of the estate of Virginia Macek, filed a lawsuit Jan. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against Manor Care of Naperville, doing business as Manorcare of Naperville, Seneca Nursing Home Inc. doing business as Lee Manor in Des Plaines, and registered nurses Maeyel Genis, Alena Leonova, Nataliya Sosnova, Roselle Chiu and Joanne Lee, alleging violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act, neglect and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Macek was admitted to Manorcare and Lee Manor between February and June 2014, where a pressure ulcer, with which she already was infected and necrotic, required intermittent hospitalizations.

The suit says Macek was improperly supervised, allowing the wound to worsen, and was not given the proper dose of the antibiotic Flagyl. As a result, the suit alleges, Macek developed peritonitis, sepsis, a urinary tract infection and other conditions that led to her death June 8, 2014.

Macek-Pogorzelski seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Jacqueline Kanter of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
