CHICAGO – A Cook County man is suing a Harvey hospital, alleging negligence caused his spinal cord injury.

Robert Johnson filed a lawsuit Jan. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, alleging medical negligence. Dr. Martin Luken was named as a respondent in discovery.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 2, 2012, Johnson came to Ingalls Memorial for surgery to remove and repair damaged intervertebral disks in his neck. During the procedure, the suit says, Johnson suffered a spinal cord injury, leaving him with permanent injuries.

The complaint states there was no neurologist present during the operation to monitor and interpret somatosensory data, contributing to the plaintiff's injury.

Johnson seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. He is represented by attorney Timothy P. Rhatigan of Rhatigan Law Offices in Chicago.
