Customer blames Circle K, Mac's Convenience for slip-and-fall injuries

CHICAGO — A Cook County woman is suing a Circle K and Mac’s Convenience Store, alleging negligence caused her to fall and injure herself.

Brenda Hudson filed a lawsuit Jan. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against Mac’s Convenience Store LLC and Circle K Stores Inc., alleging negligence and breach of duty.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 12, 2014, Hudson was lawfully walking on the defendants’ property at 6101 S. LaGrange Road, Countryside, when she fell due to an unnatural accumulation of ice and/or a foreign substance. This led to subsequent injuries, the suit says.

The lawsuit states it was the responsibility of the defendants to maintain a safe environment for their patrons.

Furthermore, the plaintiff alleges an employee of the defendant had been notified about the hazardous conditions but did not take action. At the time of the accident, the plaintiff says there was no warning of a hazard, which might have prevented her injuries.

Hudson seeks more than $50,000 from each defendant, along with the cost of suit. She is represented by attorney Jacquelyn Fernandez of The Vrdolyak Law Group LLC in Chicago.
