CHICAGO – A Cook County woman says she slipped and fell on an uncleared icy patch as she attempted to enter the emergency room of a local hospital.
Susan Brown filed a lawsuit on Jan. 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against Presence Hospitals PRV, doing business as Presence Mercy Medical Center, Mercy Center for Health Care Services and Presence Health Network, alleging premises liability.
According to the complaint, Brown slipped and fell while walking on the defendants’ property on Jan. 20, 2014. The suit says water and ice had accumulated in the plaintiff’s path as she walked toward the hospital’s emergency room. Brown blames Presence Mercy Medical Center for improperly maintaining a safe pedestrian walkway, causing her pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement lost wages and medical expenses.
Brown seeks punitive and compensatory damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented by attorney Michael A. Shammas of Trapp & Geller in Chicago.
