CHICAGO—A Cook County woman is suing Renaissance at 87th Street in a dispute surrounding her father's death.

Carol Morrison, independent administrator of the estate of Edward Morrison, filed a lawsuit on Jan. 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Renaissance at 87th Street Inc., doing business as Renaissance at 87th Street; NuCare Services Corp.; registered nurse Tiara Brown; and licensed practical nurses Shanita Brown and Angela Parker. The suit alleges wrongful death and violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, while Edward Morrison was a resident of Renaissance from Jan. 15-20, 2014, he ran a fever with elevated pulse for the entire time, but his physician was not immediately notified. Upon doctor’s orders, the suit says Morrison was transferred to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he died Jan. 21, 2014. It was later determined Morrison had developed sepsis and septic shock, but that Renaissance staff allegedly failed to detect his change in condition.

Morrison seeks damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Paul D. Richter and Caitlin K. Finnegan of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
