Patient blames South Shore Hospital for alleged attack during therapy

Hospital

CHICAGO – A Belwood man says a fellow group therapy patient attacked and injured him in 2014 after a counselor left the session at South Shore Hospital in Chicago.

Allen Thomas Jr. filed a lawsuit Jan. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Michael Scott and South Shore Hospital Corp., alleging liability for personal injury and negligent supervision.

According to the complaint, Scott became disruptive during a drug counseling session at South Shore on Jan. 18, 2014, prompting the counselor, James Lewis, to leave the session until the attendees had settled down. After Lewis left the room, Scott allegedly continued his disruptive behavior, pushing Thomas backwards over a desk chair onto the floor.

Thomas seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation expenses. He is representing himself.
