Family Dollar customer blames store for injuries from hole in floor

Caution sign

CHICAGO—A Cook County woman says she tripped and fell on a concealed hole in the floor of a Family Dollar store in Lansing.

Beth Ann Tucker filed a lawsuit on Jan. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Family Dollar Inc., Richard I. Vesole (as trustee of the VFFG Leasing Trusts), and CIW Enterprises, alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, Tucker was visiting the Burnham Avenue Family Dollar in Lansing on Feb. 22, 2015, when she stepped on a rug concealing a large hole in the store’s floor. The suit says Tucker’s injuries from the fall are a result of the store’s negligence in not repairing the hole and in not warning shoppers of its presence.

Tucker seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Richard C. Sklare of Sklare Law Group Ltd. in Chicago.
