Eggsperience of Halsted sued for more than $700K in back rent, expenses

CHICAGO – The landlord of The Gateway to the West Loop Shopping Center is suing a business for more than $700,000 in back rent and other expenses.

CD-EB/EP Retail JV LLC, by its managing member Gateway Retail Property LLC, by Mid-America Asset Management Inc., filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against Tom Sakoufakis, alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff struck a lease agreement with Eggsperience of Halsted Inc. on May 14, 2012, with an amendment to the lease signed on April 1, 2014. In both agreements, Sakoufakis agreed to be the guarantor of the tenant’s obligations. However, the suit claims he failed to pay rent and other costs associated with the property, totaling in excess of $701,976.16.

The plaintiffs seeks reimbursement for the full amounts owed, plus legal fees and additional costs to be determined at trial. They are is represented by attorneys Robert D. Tepper and Phillip N. Coover of Schenk Annes Tepper Campbell Ltd in Chicago.
