CHICAGO — A Cook County woman says a security guard at a senior citizens' complex where she lives knocked her to the floor, causing a concussion.
Frances DeVine filed a lawsuit Jan. 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against Shelly Riley, also known as Shelly Williams; Securitas Security Services USA Inc., individually and doing business as Security Management & Investigations and/or doing business as The Security Professionals Inc.; The Habitat Company LLC; The Habitat Company of Illinois LLC; LFW Inc.; Chicago Housing Authority; and the City of Chicago; alleging negligence, battery and negligent hiring.
According to the complaint, as Devine was attempting to use the restroom at a senior citizens' housing complex on Jan. 25, 2015, she was knocked to the floor by Riley, a security guard, who refused her entrance until she showed identification. The suit claims Riley knew DeVine was a resident of the complex, and that management had previously told DeVine she did not need to show identification. The plaintiff says she suffered a concussion, cuts, bruises, and other injuries from her fall.
DeVine seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Steven Trakhtman of the Law Offices of Todd A. Heller & Associates in Deerfield.
