Patient accuses Palos Community Hospital of medical negligence

CHICAGO — A Cook County man is suing Palos Community Hospital in a dispute involving alleged ongoing surgical complications associated with prostate surgery.

Paul McGrath filed a suit Jan. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Palos Community Hospital, Dr. Robert Bonzani, 21st Century Urology S.C., Dr. David Zumerchik and Uropartners LLC, alleging medical negligence. Named as respondents in discovery are Dr. Haris Aleem, Southwest Infectious Disease & Internal Medicine S.C. and Dr. Kiran Dhillon.

According to the complaint, McGrath underwent a robotically assisted prostatectomy under the defendants’ care on Feb. 17, 2014. Two days later, the suit claims, he was found to have developed perforations of the bladder and colon, and underwent procedures to repair the conditions.

However, the suit says, complications persisted, requiring McGrath to undergo some six additional repair procedures before being transferred to another facility for further care on March 16, 2014. McGrath says the defendants failed to ensure his surgical wounds were properly sutured or warn him of the potential risks involved in robotic surgery.

McGrath seeks a jury trial and damages in excess of $50,000. He is represented by attorney Susan A. Capra of Clifford Law Offices in Chicago.
