Worker sues McHugh Construction over safety claim

Ankle pain

CHICAGO — A construction worker is suing general contractor McHugh Construction for allegedly creating unsafe working conditions.

Michael Rymus filed suit Jan. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against McHugh Construction, alleging personal injury liability.

According to the complaint, Rymus, an employee of JK Steel Erectors, was working on a project at Route 30 in Lynwood overseen by McHugh Construction. The suit says Rymus injured his ankle on Aug. 14, 2015, when he slipped on a wooden ramp used to access the bridge deck work area. Rymus claims McHugh was responsible for ensuring project safety, and had failed to install stairs, a handrail or suitable footing to allow safe access to the work area.

McHugh is seeking a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney David C. Wise of Burke Wise Morrissey & Kaveny in Chicago.
