Daughter brings wrongful death suit against father’s caregivers

CHICAGO — A Cook County woman is suing a nursing-home company and two hospitals, claiming their negligence led to her father’s death.

Beatrice Johns, independent administrator of the estate of Charles Johns, filed a lawsuit Jan. 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Exceptional Care LLC, doing business as Aperion Care Burbank, Aperion Consulting LLC, Holy Cross Hospital Inc. and Little Company of Mary Hospital and Healthcare Centers Inc., doing business as Little Company of Mary Hospital, alleging negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Charles Johns, 72, lived at Aperion Care Burbank, receiving treatment from them and the other defendants between Feb. 19 and May 20, 2014. The suit claims that neglect on the part of the defendants allowed Johns to develop infected pressure ulcers that required surgical treatment, contributing to his death on June 10, 2014.

Johns seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Zachary R. Greening of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
