CHICAGO — A Cook County man is suing three Chicago businesses over the alleged wrongful death of his son from an accident involving a 4,000-pound steel beam.

Charles L. Wehmhoefer, administrator of the estate of David C. Wehmhoefer, filed a lawsuit Feb. 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Brookfield Iron & Metal LLC, Wilkins Rebuilders Supply Inc. and Warren Engine Remanufacturing Inc., alleging negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, construction worker David C. Wehmhoefer worked under the direction of Brookfield, Wilkins and Warren at a Chicago Heights construction project. On Nov. 25, 2015, the suit claims, Wehmhoefer was crushed by a 4,000-pound steel beam as a result of improper operation and inadequate safety measures enforced by Brookfield and the other defendants. Wehmhoefer died of his injuries the day of the accident, the lawsuit states.

Wehmhoefer seeks a 12-person jury trial and damages in excess of $100,000. He is represented by attorneys Kenneth J. Allen and Otto J. Shragal of Kenneth J. Allen Law Group LLC in Chicago.
