Woman accuses caregivers of negligence over mother’s broken hip

Wheelchair

CHICAGO — A Cook County woman says staff at Brentwood Nursing Home failed to properly supervise her mother, allowing her to break her hip.

Rose Marie Pigrum, as plenary guardian of the estate of Rosie Pigrum (disabled), filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Brentwood Sub Acute Healthcare Center, doing business as Brentwood Nursing Home, and THI of Illinois at Brentwood LLC, also doing business as Brentwood Nursing Home, alleging negligence under the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, Rosie Pigrum resided at Brentwood between April 11 and Aug. 13, 2014, where she received rehabilitation and nursing care. The suit says Rosie Pigrum, a dementia patient who was recovering from hip surgery, was allowed to fall out of her wheelchair and re-fractured her hip on May 4, 2014, due to the defendants' negligence.

Rose Marie Pigrum seeks damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented by attorney Michael F. Conway of the Conway Law Office P.C. in Chicago.
