Son of deceased resident accuses nursing home of neglect

Wound care

CHICAGO – A Cook County man is suing Park Villa Nursing and Rehab, in a dispute surrounding his mother’s death.

Keeneth Thomas, independent administrator for the estate of Mary Thomas, filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against Park Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LLC, alleging negligence under the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, during Mary Thomas’s residence at Park Villa, she developed or experienced worsening pressure sores to her lower extremities, infections to a Stage IV sacral wound, pneumonia, sepsis, MRSA and severe respiratory distress, hastening her death on Feb. 10, 2014. The suit blames the defendant’s staff for neglecting Mary Thomas' supervision and monitoring, failing to notify her doctor of her worsening condition, and otherwise failing to provide appropriate care.

Keeneth Thomas seeks a jury trial and damages in excess of $50,000. He is represented by attorney Jeffrey Schlapp of Schlapp Law Group LLC in Chicago.
