Patient sues doctor over alleged surgical error

7209

CHICAGO — A Cook County woman alleges that a doctor at Ingalls Health System made a surgical mistake that caused her to develop meningitis.

Peggy Killacky filed a lawsuit Feb. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Natan Scher; his practice, Natan Scher M.D. Ltd.; Southwest Surgery Center LLC, doing business as Center for Minimially Invasive Surgery; and Ingalls Health System, alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, Killacky came under Scher’s care for nasal and sinus surgery on Feb. 14, 2014. During the surgery, the suit says, Scher failed to take appropriate precautions to avoid and treat Killacky’s cerebrospinal fluid leak and its resulting meningitis. As a result, Killacky claims she suffered personal injuries that caused her to incur medical bills.

Killacky seeks damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented by attorney Patrick J. Condron of Susan E. Loggans & Associates P.C. of Chicago.
