Deceased man’s nursing home injuries blamed on The Grove’s alleged negligence

Medical neglect

CHICAGO – The administrator of the estate of a deceased nursing home patient is suing The Grove at the Lake for injuries the patient allegedly suffered while a resident.

Gus Bell, independent administrator of the estate of Gerald Mickens, filed a lawsuit Feb. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Grove at the Lake Skilled Nursing Facility LLC, doing business as The Grove at the Lake Living and Rehabilitation Center, alleging negligence under the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, Mickens was a resident of The Grove at various times between Feb. 11, 2014, and April 28, 2015. The suit says Mickens fell and injured himself on several occasions while living at The Grove and developed severe pressure ulcers, allegedly due to the facility’s negligence.

Bell seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000 as compensation for Micken’s pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement, and medical and related expenses. He is represented by attorney Michael A. Kosner of The Deratany Firm in Chicago.
