CHICAGO — Several health-care providers are being sued by a married couple after a man who had knee surgery subsequently underwent a leg amputation due to alleged infection.
Barry and Valencia Sirchis are suing Northwest Community Healthcare, Northwest Community Hospital, Dr. Eduard Sladek, Orthopedic Associates, S.C., Northwest Suburban Medical Associates, S.C., and Dr. Cristian Speil, citing alleged negligence.
The couple sued on Feb. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging that the defendants did not follow adequate procedures to ensure that Barry Sirchis would not get an infection and have further complications from knee replacement surgery.
The suit says Barry Sirchis was admitted to Northwest Community Hospital on Feb. 18, 2014, for a knee replacement, and describes a series of medical appointments and procedures that finally led to amputation of the leg on Oct. 17, 2015. The plaintiffs are suing the defendants for allegedly failing to follow procedures to safely allow Barry Sirchis to recover from his initial surgery.
The plaintiffs seek the following: compensation for pain and suffering that will include social and love abandonment. They are represented by James A. Karamanis and Kenneth A. Nazarian of Barney & Karamanis LLP in Chicago.
