Cochlear implant patient sues device maker

Ear

CHICAGO — A woman who received a cochlear implant has sued the device's manufacturer after the implant allegedly failed and the device was subject to a recall for a defect.

Patricia Juron sued Cochlear Limited and Cochlear Americas Corp., citing alleged design defect.

Juron sued on Feb. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants manufactured cochlear ear implants with microcracks that caused a device failure.

The plaintiff claims that she got a cochlear implant on April 25, 2011, and that it failed on Feb. 20, 2014, and that she had not been warned of a dangerous situation that the implant allegedly created in connection with a defective manufacturing process. The plaintiff holds Cochlear Limited and Cochlear Americas Corporation responsible because the defendants allegedly did not notify patients of the known risks of the implants.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation in excess of $50,000 and costs associated with the lawsuit. She is represented by Barry G. Doyle of Law Offices of Barry G. Doyle, P.C. in Orland Park, Illinois.
