Administrator sues senior living facility

Nursinghome

CHICAGO – A senior living facility and its associates are being accused of negligence in the treatment of a former resident.

Barbara L. DeLee, as independent administrator for the estate of Arthur E. Pierce, filed a complaint on Feb. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Emericare Inc., Emeritus Corp., Brookdale Senior Living Inc., S-H Opco Hoffman Estates LLC and BKD Twenty-One Management Co. Inc., citing wrongful death and negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between Dec. 13, 2013, and July 21, 2015, Pierce resided at Emeritus at Hoffman Estates and/or Brookdale at Hoffman Estates. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendant allegedly did not take all the steps necessary to ensure proper care for the elderly, and Pierce suffered injuries of a personal, pecuniary and permanent nature before his death.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for excess of $50,000 plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by Jeffery E. Martin of Law Offices of Jeffrey E. Martin LLC in Arlington Heights.
