CHICAGO – A prominent law and philosophy blogger has filed a suit against his physician over personal injury allegations.

Brian Leiter and Sheila M. Sokolowski filed a complaint on Feb. 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Shaun T. Ittiara, Retinal-Vitreal Consultants LTD and Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, citing medical negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Nov. 21, 2014, Leiter was diagnosed with a horseshoe retinal break of the right eye and underwent pneumatic retinopexy of eye at Mercy Hospital Eye Center, performed by Ittiara.

The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly deviated from the standard of care required by failing to diagnose a condition that should have been identified, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, when Leiter underwent pneumatic retinopexy.

The plaintiffs seek compensation for a sum in excess of the jurisdictional limits. They are represented by Francis P. Morrissey of Burke, Wise, Morrissey & Kaveny in Chicago.
