CHICAGO — The estate of a man who died after vomiting his feeding tube contents is suing an Orland Park nursing home, citing alleged negligence that led to wrongful death.
Faylicia Hardwick, estate administrator for Milus Hardwick, filed suit on Feb. 26 in Cook Circuit Court against Lexington Health Care Center of Orland Park Inc. alleging that the nursing home staff did not properly monitor the patient.
According to the complaint, the staff failed to properly monitor Hardwick for decubitus ulcers or for proper use of his feeding tube between October and November 2014. Hardwick was taken to the hospital on Nov. 25, 2014, where it was discovered that he had been vomiting the contents of his feeding tube, and had developed aspiration pneumonia, septic shock and sepsis, among other ailments.
He died on Feb. 18, 2015 of conditions allegedly caused or exacerbated by the aspiration pneumonia.
The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than $50,000. She is represented by Brian J. Holmes of Hurley McKenna & Mertz, P.C. in Chicago.
