Thorek Memorial Hospital sued after bed allegedly collapses

Bed

CHICAGO — A former patient is suing a hospital for injuries allegedly suffered to her knee after a bed she was in at the medical center collapsed.

Lynda Santos filed suit against Thorek Memorial Hospital in the Chicago Circuit Court on Feb. 1, alleging negligence, a breach of duties and failure to properly maintain the facility.

Santos alleges that while at Thorek Memorial Hospital on Feb. 13, 2014 a bed collapsed and crushed her right knee causing her to be injured. She claims to have been exercising all due care and caution for her own safety when she was injured, and is thereby not responsible for the occurrence.

The defendant is accused of negligently maintaining a defective piece of medical equipment; failing to notice, remedy and repair the unreasonably dangerous condition; and failure to warn plaintiff of the unsafe condition.

Santos is seeking damages for a sum in excess of $50,000. She is represented by John K. Vrdolyak of The Vrdolyak Law Group LLC in Chicago.
