Nursing home faces wrongful death claim in lawsuit

Wheelchair

CHICAGO — The independent administrator of a deceased woman's estate is suing a nursing home, alleging wrongful death.

Richard Kemp, grandson and independent administrator of the estate of Betty Norris, filed suit on March 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Alden-Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Inc. and Alden Management Services, Inc., citing alleged negligence.

The plaintiff alleges that, on Sept. 3, 2014, Norris fell from a wheelchair, was found to have a right hip fracture the next day, and underwent surgery on the day after that discovery. The suit claims injuries and the subsequent treatment caused or contributed to cause Norris' death on Oct. 2, 2014.

The plaintiff claims the defendants failed to properly assess and supervise Norris' condition and failed to maintain safe premises.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of $50,000 plus attorney's fees and the costs of suit. He is represented by Michelle L. Wesley of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
