Man's death cited in suit against nursing homes

Nursing

CHICAGO — The independent administrator of a deceased man's estate has sued two nursing homes in a lawsuit alleging wrongful death.

Mitzi Walker, independent administrator of the estate of Herman Smith, filed suit on March 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Manor Care of Homewood IL LLC and Glenwood Healthcare & Rehab Inc., citing alleged negligence and violation of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

The plaintiff alleges that from May 2014 through the time of Smith's death on Oct. 14, 2014, Smith developed worsening pressure ulcers. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to supervise the nursing care and treatment to prevent the development and worsening of pressure ulcers.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of $50,000 plus attorney's fees and the costs of suit. She is represented by Matthew K. Henry of the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates, P.C. in Chicago.
