Mother sues Northwestern Memorial Hospital after son's death

Hospital

CHICAGO — A mother is suing Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation, a health care services company, citing alleged negligence that led to the death of her son.

Mara Berger filed a complaint on March 14 in the Cook Circuit Court against the defendants alleging that they knowingly failed to confine her son for reevaluation of medical condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on March 31, 2014, her son suffered a severe headache and complications that led to cardiopulmonary arrest. The plaintiff holds Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to diagnose properly and recognize symptoms in a timely manner.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of the court's jurisdictional limits, plus the costs of the suit. She is represented by Joseph W. Balesteri of Power Rogers & Smith P.C. in Chicago.
