CHICAGO — A woman is suing Advocate Health and Hospitals and two of its doctors, citing alleged negligence that led to the death of her sister.
Marian Gorgi, as the independent administrator of the estate of Mervat Gorgi, filed a complaint on March 14 in the Cook Circuit Court against Advocate Health And Hospitals Inc., Brian Febbo, Steven Nanini and Advocate Christ Hospital Health Partners Inc., alleging that they knowingly violated the Illinois Wrongful Death Act by failing to provide appropriate medical care and treatment.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Aug. 24, 2014, Mervat Gorgi suffered abdominal pain and was diagnosed with kidney stones, but wasn't admitted to Advocate Christ Medical Center until he returned on Aug. 27, 2014, and suffered hyperglycemia that led to sepsis and ultimately his death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly diagnose, evaluate, care and treat the symptoms and conditions of Mervat Gorgi.
The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of $50,000, plus the costs of suit. She is represented by Rebecca E. Neubauer of Romanucci & Blandin in Chicago.
