Woman sues nursing home after alleged negligence leads to husband's death

File000921513512

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Parkshore Estates Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, citing alleged negligence that lead to the death of her husband.

Lillian Bankhead, as the independent administrator of the estate of Edward Bankhead, filed a complaint on March 8 in the Cook Circuit Court against Parkshore Estates Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LLC and Infinity Healthcare Management of Illinois LLC, alleging that the nursing and rehabilitation facility knowingly violated the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act by failing to provide assistance and supervision in giving care and treatment, which led to a wrongful death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on March 10, 2014, her decedent was suffering from severe dehydration and hypernatremia that should have been prevented by the nursing home at which he was a resident. Edward Bankhead was taken to a hospital but died a few days later. The plaintiff holds Parkshore Estates Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Infinity Healthcare Management of Illinois responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to administer treatments by not giving Edward Bankhead the necessary G-tube flushes and feedings to prevent dehydration and malnutrition.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for an amount in excess of $50,000, plus attorney's fees and the costs of suit. She is represented by Daisy Ayllon of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
