Chicago woman blames apartment owners for injury

Backinjury

CHICAGO — A Chicago woman is suing an apartment owner, alleging its negligence resulted in injuries.

Anacleta Mendoza filed a lawsuit March 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Adnan Elhaj, Leigh Ann Heusdens and Gonzon Construction, alleging negligence resulting in injury by violating the Chicago Building Code.

According to the complaint, on March 24, 2014, Mendoza fell while attempting to descend the stairs at 1701 W. 35th St., Chicago, and sustained injuries. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to install handrails that extended to the stair closest to ground level.

Mendoza seeks compensation in excess of minimal jurisdictional requirements, plus the costs of suit. She is represented by attorney Peter K. Berg of Berg & Berg in Chicago.
