CHICAGO — A former patient is suing a neurosurgeon, claiming misdiagnosis and an unnecessary surgical procedure.
Thomas Hoekstra is suing Caleb R. Lipman, MD, citing alleged medical malpractice.
The plaintiff filed a complaint on Jan. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging that the neurosurgeon misdiagnosed him as having normal pressure hydrocephalus and allegedly performed an unnecessary surgical procedure for the placement of a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt.
The plaintiff alleges that he sustained personal injuries which are permanent and pecuniary in nature and he holds the defendant responsible.
The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for an amount exceeding $50,000 plus costs. He is represented by Timothy P. Rhatigan of Rhatigan Law Offices, LLC in Chicago.
