CHICAGO — The estate of a deceased patient is suing an Evergreen Park hospital, alleging negligence resulting in injury and death.
Adolphe Vaughn, independent administrator for the estate of Columbus Harrell, filed a lawsuit Jan. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Little Company of Mary Hospital And Healthcare Centers, Inc. and Dr. Todd Zisholtz, alleging negligence resulting in injury and failing to exercise reasonable care in giving care and treatment.
According to the complaint, on Jan. 20, 2014, Harrell suffered peritonitis and a peritoneal abscess resulting from a misplaced percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to position properly the PEG tube and failed to order a radiologist to further evaluate after re-insertion of the tube.
Harrell died May 28, 2014.
Vaughn seeks compensation of more than $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Jordan S. Powell of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
