Family blames long-term care facility for relative's death

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing a South Holland health care facility, alleging negligence caused her relative's death. 

Linda May Elliot, as administrator for the estate of Charles Elliot, filed a lawsuit March 25, in Cook County Circuit Court against The Villa At South Holland, Villa Healthcare and Villa Financial Services LLC, alleging they knowingly violated the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act by failing to provide adequate assistance and supervision in giving care and treatment.

According to the complaint, between March 26-April 7, 2014, Charles Elliot experienced multiple episodes of diarrhea that led to dehydration, infection and his death April 13, 2014. The plaintiff alleges failureto assess and evaluate Charles Elliot condition in a timely manner.

Linda May Elliot requests a trial by jury, more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and the costs of suit. She is represented by attorneys Susan Novosad and Andrew J. Thut of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
