Mother blames medical provider for son's death

1824

CHICAGO — A Sauk Village mother is suing health service providers, alleging their negligence caused her son's death.

Monique Cole, individually and as special administrator for Johnathan Redmond Jr., filed a lawsuit April 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against Specialty Physicians of Illinois LLC, Dr. Ira Kumar and Franciscan Alliance Inc. alleging negligence and violating the Illinois Wrongful Death Act by failing to administer vaccines to a pediatric patient.

According to the complaint, on April 8, 2014, Redmond suffered an adverse reaction from vaccines, leading to his death. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly examine her son before administering the five vaccines ordered for him by Dr. Kumar.

Cole seeks a trial by jury, more than $50,000, plus the costs of suit. She is represented by attorney Gregory J. Olmstead of The Deratany Firm in Chicago.
