Family blames Chicago health provider for sister's death

Hospital

CHICAGO — A relative is suing a Chicago-based health service provider, alleging negligence caused her sister's death.

Mellisa Jackson, as independent administrator for the estate of Bukola Lasaki, filed a complaint Feb. 3, in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health And Hospitals Corporation in Chicago, doing business as Advocate Trinity Hospital, and Dr. Ken Richards, alleging they knowingly violated the Illinois Wrongful Death Act by failing to provide adequate assistance, supervision and treatment in a timely manner.

According to the complaint, between Feb.4-5, 2014, Lasaki suffered respiratory arrest leading to her death at Advocate Trinity. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to asses and treat her sister's condition in a timely manner to prevent her desaturation and respiratory arrest.

Jackson seeks a trial by jury, more than $50,000 in damages, plus the costs of suit. She is represented by attorney Kent D. Sinson of Sinson Law Group in Chicago.
