Family blames doctor, medical center for relative's death

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO — An estate's administrator is suing a doctor and a Chicago hospital, alleging negligence caused a relative's death.

Veronica Alonzo, as estate administrator for Jose Alonzo, filed a lawsuit April 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Leonard Kranzler, Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Northside Neurosurgery LLC, alleging they negligently failed to exercise the proper standard in providing medical care and treatment.

According to the complaint, between July 25-26, 2014, Jose Alonzo has a vision loss following a July 23, 2014, pituitary gland surgery that made his situation worse. He was readmitted with a significant brain hemorrhage, the suit said, underwent another surgery, then subsequently died Oct. 19, 2014. Veronica Alonzo alleges the defendants failed to appropriately assess her relative's post-surgery condition and failed to work on the visual defect by referring to an ophthalmologist in a timely manner.

Veronica Alonzo seeks a trial by jury and damages of more than of $50,000. She is represented by attorney Bradley Z. Schulman of Motherway & Napleton LLP in Chicago.
