CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing a Chicago health facility, alleging negligence caused a relative's death.
Patricia Lewis, as administrator for the estate of Laurva Thomas, filed a lawsuit April 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against Alden-Wentworth Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center Inc., Alden Wentworth LLC, Alden Wentworth and Alden Wentworth Rehab & HCC, alleging they knowingly violated the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act by failing to provide required assessment, care and treatment.
According to the complaint, between May 1-Oct. 11, 2014, Laurva Thomas developed multiple pressure ulcers that became infected, leading to his death Oct. 11, 2014. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly asses Thomas' condition and take necessary measures to prevent him from developing and worsening pressure ulcers.
Lewis seeks a trial by jury, damages of more than $50,000, plus the costs of suit. She is represented by attorneys Brian J. Holmes and Michael T. Mertz of Hurley McKenna & Mertz PC in Chicago.
