Physician accuses Cook County hospital systems of retaliatory discharge

Wrongful term 07

CHICAGO — A DuPage County physician is suing the Cook County health system, alleging breach of contract, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Dr. Mahammad Vaseemuddin filed a lawsuit April 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Cook County and the Cook County Health and Hospital Systems, alleging they violated Illinois Whistleblowers Act provisions in terminating his employment.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 4, 2013, Vaseemuddin discharged because he frequently complained about poor patient care, reported his concerns of unsafe patient care and because he complained that he was working full-time but not receiving full-time benefits.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants continually harassed him by giving him an unfair workload of patients, scheduled him on days when he was not available, made him work holidays and on days he had requested a day off, denied CME credit and accused him of being tardy when he was not.

Vaseemuddin seeks a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000 and compensation for damages, plus applicable fees and costs. He is represented by attorneys John C. Kreamer and Joseph E. Urani of The Kreamer Law Group LLC in Naperville.
