Family accuses St. Bernard Hospital of negligence in relative's death

Medical malpractice 04

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing Chicago health care providers, alleging negligence in the death of a relative.

Arletha Troupe, as special administrator for the estate of Denarius Troupe, filed a lawsuit April 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center and Dr. Hong Ming Lay, alleging they knowingly violated the Illinois Wrongful Death Act by failing to exercise care, skill and diligence in performing medical operative procedures.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges on April 23, 2014, Denarius Troupe went to the emergency room of St. Bernard Hospital with complaints of sharp upper abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills and decreased appetite. Troupe underwent an appendectomy and died April 25, 2014, the suit says.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants improperly preformed the appendectomy and failed to assess and monitor Denarius Troupe's postoperative condition.

Arletha Troupe seeks a trial by jury and damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Ray Gupta of Schererville, Indiana, and Gabriel Hardy of Chicago.
