Family blames nursing care facility for relative's death

Medical malpractice 03

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing health care providers, alleging negligence led to a relative's death.

Sharon McBride, as special administrator for the estate of Nedra Wollridge, filed a lawsuit April 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Lakefront Nursing & Rehabilitation Center LLC, St. Joseph Hospital and Dr. Nalani Ahluwalia, alleging they knowingly violated the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act by failing to properly assist Wollridge's wound infection.

According to the complaint, Wollridge's left foot and left leg were amputated due to infection, and she suffered until her death June 26, 2010. McBride alleges the defendants failed to keep Wollridge's wounds clean and free from infection during her time as a resident at Lakefront.

McBride seeks a trial by jury, more than $50,000 in damages, plus attorney fees and the costs of suit. She is represented by attorney Grace E. Wein of Wein & Associates PC in Chicago.
