Family blames Chicago nursing care facility for relative's death

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing a Chicago nursing care facility, alleging negligence caused a relative's death.

Denise Hudson, as independent administrator for the estate of James Lee Patterson, filed a lawsuit April 25 in Cook County Circuit Court against Woodbridge Nursing Pavilion Ltd. doing business as Woodbridge Nursing Pavilion, and Dynamic Healthcare Inc., doing business as Dynamic Healthcare Consultants, alleging they knowingly violated the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act in failing to provide assistance and supervision in care and treatment.

According to the complaint, between May 23, 2014, and Aug. 19, 2014, Patterson developed multiple pressure sores, malnutrition and suffered pain due to multiple falls while in Woodbridge. His condition deteriorated until his death Jan. 14, 2015, the suit says.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to adequately assist and supervise Patterson to prevent him from falling and to avoid the development of pressure sores and malnutrition.

Hudson seeks a trial by jury, damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and the costs of suit. She is represented by attorneys Jacob D. Radecki and Margaret P. Battersby Black of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
