CHICAGO – A mother alleges that her unarmed son was shot seven times by a police officer.

Pamela Anderson, individually and independent administrator of the estate of James Anderson, deceased, filed a complaint on April 1 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the city of Chicago and Officer Christopher Ramey alleging wrongful death.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Sept. 25, 2015, she called 911 to have her son, James Anderson, a non-violent man suffering from mild mental illness, to be escorted to the hospital in an ambulance. The suit states that four Chicago Police officers, including defendant Ramey, arrived at their residence. Defendant Ramey went inside the house with his gun drawn and when an unarmed James Anderson emerged from his room, when suddenly and without warning defendant Ramey shot him seven times and killed him, the plaintiff alleges.

The plaintiff holds Chicago Police and Christopher Ramey responsible because the defendants allegedly used deadly force under circumstances when James Anderson posed no threat of death or bodily harm and recklessly discharged his firearm seven times when James Anderson was unarmed.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for damages against defendant Ramsey in excess of the jurisdictional limit of the court and for such other relief as the court may deem necessary. She is represented by Fred A. Tuglio of Fred A. Tuglio & Associates LLC in Chicago.
