Cook County man blames Illinois companies for basement injuries

Slip02

CHICAGO — A Cook County man is suing a number of Illinois companies, alleging their negligence caused him to fall in basement and suffer injuries.

Jorge Garcia Ramirez filed a lawsuit April 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against Windy City Re LLC, Windy City South Loop LLC, Championship Apartments LLC, Maximilian LLC, and Neihaus General Construction LLC, alleging negligence in failing to keep a work area free from any hazards that could cause injuries.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 13, 2015, while working in the basement of 2036 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, Ramirez suffered severe and permanent injuries when he stepped on a sewer cover covered in dust and his left leg fell into the sewer. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to keep the basement free of any debris from demolition and failed to ensure there was adequate lighting inside the basement.

Ramirez seeks more than $50,000 from each defendant or such other sum that would compensate him for his injuries, plus all legal fees. He is represented by attorney William J. Turner of Friend, Levinson & Turner LTD in Chicago.
