CHICAGO — A Cook County man is suing the city of Chicago and city police offers, alleging he was arrested unlawfully and maliciously attacked.

Justin Cooper filed a lawsuit April 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against the city of Chicago and police officers H. H. Patel G. A. Roldan, alleging they deprived him of his constitutional rights.

According to the complaint, on April 5, 2015, Cooper was arrested by Patel and Roldan at 3651 Wilton Ave. on suspicion of committing a battery. During interrogation, he was punched in the right eye causing him to suffer severe injury, the suit says.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants deprived him of his right to equal protection of the law, impeded the due course of justice in violation of the Constitution and failed to properly discipline officers who use excessive force.

Cooper seeks a trial by jury and judgment against each defendant of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney William E. Buenger, Jr. of Curcio Law Offices in Chicago.
