Patient alleges nursing home negligence caused her injuries

Medical malpractice 01

CHICAGO — A woman is suing a Chicago nursing home, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and suffering.

Murthia M. Nelson filed a lawsuit May 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Alden Wentworth Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Inc. and Alden Wentworth Inc., alleging violation of the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, from May 19, 2014 to the present, Nelson was a resident at the defendants' facility, 201 W. 69th St., Chicago, for treatment of various conditions. On May 27, 2014, the suit says, she was caused to develop skin breakdown, pressure ulcers, wounds, malnutrition and dehydration.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants violated her rights by continuously neglecting her, failing to properly evaluate her condition to determine what treatment was needed, failing to notify her family of changes in her condition or of when unusual circumstances arose and failing to provide necessary care and service.

Nelson seeks a trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs of suit and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Christine E. Clark of Mark K. Karno and Associates in Chicago.
