Patient alleges St. Francis Hospital, doctor prescribed wrong drug

Medical malpractice 07

CHICAGO — A Cook County patient is suing a doctor and an Evanston hospital, alleging negligence in prescribing the wrong drug.

Mir Iqbal filed a lawsuit May 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Chris Costas, St. Francis Hospital and, as a respondent in discovery, Walgreen's 02721 in Niles, alleging negligence in prescribing the wrong drug.

According to the complaint, between March-May 6, 2014, he suffered physical pain and several conditions due to the side effects of Itraconazole. The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly prescribe the correct medicine for Iqbal's tuberculosis treatment or, in Walgreen's case, should have red-flagged the prescription because the dosage was way out of line .

Iqbal seeks general and special damages, all legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorney Christopher V. Langone of Chicago.
