Patient accuses Chicago physician of medical negligence in burning

CHICAGO — A patient is suing a Chicago doctor, alleging his negligence caused her to be burned during surgery.

Diana Law filed a lawsuit May 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Kenneth L. Shaw, alleging medical negligence in failing to exercise proper care when performing surgery.

According to the complaint, on May 13, 2014, Law sustained an open wound/ burn to her left axilla as a result of a burn caused by the Smart Lipo technique performed by Stein. The plaintiff alleges Stein failed to properly monitor the temperature of the Smart Lipo device while performing surgery.

Law seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, all legal fees and any other relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by attorney Kimberly M. Brancato of Meyers & Flowers LLC in St. Charles.
