Family blames Chicago rehabilitation center for relative's pain, death

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing Chicago health providers, alleging their negligence caused her relative pain and ultimately death.

Marta Vargas, as independent administrator of the estate of Elena Ramirez Marroquin, filed a lawsuit March 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Glencrest Healthcare & Rehab Centrein Chicago, Glen Health and Home Management Inc., registered nurses Cristina Torre, Monina David, Vivien Cavo, and Kindred-Chicago-Central Hospital, alleging wrongful death in failing to provide proper care for Marroquin.

According to the complaint, between March 5-May 29, 2014, Marroquin was injured and sustained severe physical damages which resulted in her death July 19, 2014. The plaintiff alleges the defendants were negligent in failing to provide adequate and professional care to Marroquin during her stay at their facility.

Vargas seeks judgment in excess of this court's jurisdictional requisite, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorney Jacqueline Kanter of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
