Widow blames Riverdale, motorist for husband's death

CHICAGO — A Homewood woman is suing, the village of Riverdale and a motorist, alleging their negligence led to her husband's death in a car crash. 

Connie Barnum, as special administrator of the estate of Paul C. Barnum, filed a lawsuit Feb. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against the village of Riverdale, Commonwealth Edison Company, an unknown construction company, and Stacey Luster, as special administrator of the estate of Precious Luster, alleging failure to provide safe road signs and adequate street lights and failure to properly control a vehicle.

According to the complaint, on July 26, 2015, her husband, Paul Barnum, a passenger in a car driven by Precious Lester, died in a car crash after Luster drove into a concrete construction barrier on Ashland Avenue in Riverdale. The plaintiff alleges Luster failed keep a proper lookout while driving on a dark street while Riverdale and Com Ed failed to provide adequate lighting in the area.

Connie Barnum seeks judgment against the defendant in excess of the jurisdictional amount of the court and any other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Yao O. Dinizulu of Dinizulu Law Group LTD in Chicago.
