Patient accuses Northshore University Healthsystem of negligence

CHICAGO — An Illinois patient is suing a Skokie health care system, alleging negligence caused her to suffer injuries.

Helen Bakus filed a lawsuit May 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northshore University Healthsystem, doing business as Northshore University Healthsystem Skokie Hospital, alleging negligence in failing to provide proper medical care.

According to the complaint, on May 15, 2014, Bakus fell in the intensive care unit of Skokie Hospital, suffering severe injuries on her right arm that required significant medical care and hospitalizations. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to provide proper supervision while she was confined in the intensive care unit.

Bakus seeks judgment of more than $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Emilio E. Machado of Rubin Machado & Rosenblum LTD in Chicago.
