Mother blames Oak Park medical facility for newborn's injuries

CHICAGO — A mother is suing an Oak Park hospital, alleging negligence caused injuries to her newborn daughter. 

Chasity Watkins, mother and next friend of Aiden Green, filed a lawsuit May 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against VHS West Suburban Medical Center Inc. in Oak Park, alleging negligence in failing provide proper medical care to the plaintiff and her unborn child.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 4, 2015, Watkins' child, Aiden Green sustained severe medical condition known as hypoxic ischemic encephalopothy (HIE) during her birth at West Suburban Medical Center. The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to timely attend to her and failed to monitor Watkins while she was in the care of West Suburban.

Watkins seeks more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Michael P. Cogan of Cogan & Power PC in Chicago.
